In the New World, Hadingham illuminates recent discoveries in
California and the Southwest: the Chumash cave art of California,
sun-dagger solar devices of New Mexico, and the intriguing align-
ments of twelfth-century pueblos, near which a form of the ancient
astronomer's art is still practiced today. Paticular attention is given
the temples and cosmologies of the Mayans,whose ancient priest
compiled books on lunar cycles so accurate that they err by only
two hours every five centuries.
